Spotsylvania General District Court

The Spotsylvania County General District Court handles traffic infractions, misdemeanor criminal cases, civil claims up to $25,000, and preliminary hearings for felony charges. Small claims cases up to $5,000 can be filed there as well. The General District Court is a busy court given how much Spotsylvania has grown in recent years. Many residents commute toward Northern Virginia or Fredericksburg, which means the traffic court docket is heavy with infractions from major routes including Interstate 95 and Route 1.

Triple-seal copies, which require both the clerk's seal and a judicial signature, run an additional $2.50 per document. These rates are set by Virginia law and apply statewide.

Mail-in requests are accepted. Include the full names of all parties, the year the case was filed, and a case number if you have one. Send payment as a certified check or money order made out to the Clerk of Circuit Court. Add a self-addressed stamped envelope for return of copies. Online fine payments for General District Court cases can be made through the Virginia Judiciary Online Payment System at eapps.courts.state.va.us/fmsOnline. A four percent convenience fee applies when paying by credit or debit card.

Public Access and FOIA in Spotsylvania
