Floyd County Circuit Court Clerk

The Floyd County Circuit Court Clerk's Office is the primary keeper of court records in Floyd County. The current clerk is Rhonda T. Vaughn. The office handles all civil and criminal case filings, maintains the court docket, issues legal documents, and stores case files. Floyd County General District Court

The Floyd County General District Court handles misdemeanor criminal cases, traffic offenses, and civil claims up to $25,000. It operates as part of the 27th Judicial District. The court shares the courthouse location at 100 East Main Street in Floyd. District court records are searchable through the statewide GDC system.

For civil matters, the district court has jurisdiction over claims between $4,500 and $25,000. Claims under $4,500 fall to Small Claims. Felony cases and major civil suits go to the Circuit Court. If you are not sure which court handled a case, a name search in both systems will usually answer the question.

Note: Court records before 1970 in the land record system and before 1994 for judgments and financing statements are in bound books only. Plan ahead if you need very old documents.

Getting Copies of Floyd Court Records

Copy fees in Virginia circuit courts follow the standard schedule: $0.50 per page for plain copies, an additional $2.00 for certified copies, and an additional $2.50 for triple-seal copies. To request copies by mail, write to the Floyd County Circuit Court Clerk at 100 East Main Street, Room 200, Floyd, Virginia 24091. Include the case number or names of the parties, the approximate year of filing, your contact information, and a check or money order. The clerk's office will pull the record and return copies with any change.

For in-person visits, go to the clerk's office during business hours. Bring a photo ID. Staff can locate the file and make copies while you wait, depending on the volume of requests that day. If the record you need is in a bound book, retrieval may take a little more time.
